Ukrainian Military Thwarts Militants Attempting to Penetrate Contact Line
Ukrainian soldiers captured eight militants near Shyrokyne village around Mariupol, as Ukrainian military press-officer Vitalii Kyrylov stated on 112.Ukraine TV Channel.
This was a result of a planned operation: the soldiers patrolled their territories and found a new militants’ outpost. "The militants attempted to establish an outpost in 2.5 km from the contact line on our side, thus violating the Minsk provisions," Kyrylov underlined.
"The militants were offered to surrender. Two of them refused and were shot," he added. "They are now being interrogated by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). All of them are allegedly residents of the Donetsk People’s Republic and Luhansk People’s Republic (DNR and LNR) who joined Russian occupation forces," he continued.
Yurii Tandit, Advisor to the Head of the SBU, told 112.Ukraine that they had interrogated the detainees. "These are young men from the DNR carrying weapons, including modern Russian weapons," he said. Tandit also uttered that Ukrainian military used force only after some of the militants refused to surrender. Three of them were killed and eight captured, he summarized. On the Ukrainian armed forces side, only one soldier suffered injury.
