Poroshenko Believes Britain Will Remain in ‘United Europe’
President Poroshenko voiced hopes that Great Britain will remain in "united Europe" and will defend common European values, he wrote on Facebook on Friday, June 24 [ed.: the text of this Facebook post is in the Ukrainian language].
"I believe that the European Union is facing an urgent challenge to find a way to the hearts of eurosceptics, not to give the opponents of European integration and their generous sponsors a chance," the President said.
Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said that he "accepts and respects" the results of the referendum, but today was "not the best day for united Europe."
"Ukrainians remain committed to European democratic values. We have paid a high price for choosing Europe, protecting not only our sovereignty, but also Europe’s eastern borders. That’s why we will continue to fight for a strong unified Europe," Prime Minister said.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin also thinks that Ukraine is important for Europe: "Europe has many current and future challenges in front of it. Ukraine could play a huge role in dealing with them."
On June 23, 51.9% of the British people voted for Great Britain to leave European Union.
