Lutsenko Says Prosecutors Have Sufficient Salaries
Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko doesn’t think that Ukrainian prosecutors have low salaries, he said in an interview to Vysokyi Zamok [ed.: the text of this hyperlink is in the Ukrainian language].
"It is a myth that they [prosecutors] have low salaries," he said. "The monthly salary of a regular prosecutor is about ₴12,000 [$480]. Whereas we all know how much our teachers receive…" Lutsenko said he used to think that prosecutors were paid much less. His own salary is ₴35,000, "which is a huge increase compared to the Verkhovna Rada."
Lutsenko says that he asks his subordinates to choose to either settle for what the state pays them, or quit and go into business, but to "not do business at the Prosecutor General’s Office, because it is a criminal offense."
