Armed Forces Chief Questioned Over 2014 Airplane Attack
Chief of the General Staff Viktor Muzhenko was questioned by Pavlohrad Court in the case of Major General Viktor Nazarov who is accused of negligence of duty, which led to the deaths of 49 people in the sky above Luhansk on June 14, 2014 after a military transport plane was shot down by militants, 5 Kanal reports.
Muzhenko was questioned via a video conference. The commander of the 25th transport aviation brigade Dmytro Mymrykov, who was able to land his plane on the day of the tragedy, was also questioned.
Both witnesses said it was already known at the time that militants were present in the area of Luhansk airport. General Nazarov, whose orders are said to have led to the shootdown of the plane, can receive up to eight years of jail time.
