Onyshchenko Suing the Prosecutor General’s Office and NABU
MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko is suing the Prosecutor General’s Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) in regards to protecting his dignity and business reputation. Ukrayinska Pravda has the text of the claim.
In it, Onyshchenko says that on June 15 during a press briefing the Head of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office Nazar Kholodnytskyi called him an organizer of a criminal scheme. Onyshchenko believes this information is not true and demands it be refuted, as it "infringes on [his] right to respect for his honor, dignity, and business reputation."
According to the law the legal entity official is affiliated with is the defendant in the case of information provided during working hours. In case of Kholodnytskyi, this is the Prosecutor General’s Office. Onyshchenko is also suing NABU because it shared the video of the briefing on its website.
Oleksandr Onyshchenko allegedly masterminded corrupt schemes around PJSC UkrGasVydobuvannya (UGV), a state natural gas extraction company. The filing on lifting his immunity, prosecution, detention, and arrest has been submitted to the Committee on Rules of Parliamentary Procedure of the Verkhovna Rada. All 10 people who were arrested on June 15 in relation to this case have been detained for 60 days.
