Onyshchenko meets with NABU Chief
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine explained to MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko that he cannot formally be a suspect in a high-profile gas arbitrage corruption case while he still has parliamentary immunity, NABU spokesperson Darya Manzhura said in a comment to Ukrayinska Pravda.
Onyshchenko acted on his promise to go to NABU himself so that "nobody could accuse him of running away and hiding from investigation." He met with the Director of NABU Artem Sytnyk. "During the meeting, Onyshchenko was briefed about his status in a case regarding Ukraine’s state gas producer Ukrgasvydobuvannya (UGV): he cannot formally be a suspect before the Verkhovna Rada lifts his immunity. He was also briefed on why ‘his people’ were arrested," Manzhura said.
Manzhura said that Onyshchenko’s written request to provide him with certain documents was registered at NABU according to the procedure. She added that Onyshchenko has the right to access all the materials that were submitted to the Committee on Rules of Parliamentary Procedure on June 15 in regards to the request to lift his immunity, prosecute, detain, and arrest him in relation to alleged corrupt schemes at UGV.
