Most Ukrainians Want Poroshenko to Step Down, Offshores Are to Blame

According to a Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) poll, most Ukrainians think that President Petro Poroshenko should step down after the information about his business workings through offshores became known to the public through the so-called Panama papers.

48.6% of respondents think that the President ‘definitely should’ leave his post, while 17.5% said that he ‘rather should’ step down. 9.3% and 6.3% of the respondents are of the opinion that Poroshenko ‘rather shouldn’t’ or ‘definitely shouldn’t’ leave office. The remaining 18.3% said they were ‘not sure’.

2,039 respondents of voting age were interviewed between May 13 and May 18 in all regions of Ukraine, except Crimea and non-government-controlled territories in Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts. People in the southern regions were the least supportive of the President, with 65.7% wanting him out, while people in the western Ukraine showed the most support, with 43.1% saying they would want him to leave.

KIIS did not disclose the name of the individual or organization that commissioned the study.
