Minister of Justice Demands to Dismiss 400 Prosecutors

The Minister of Justice of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko asked the newly appointed Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko to dismiss about 400 prosecutors who fall under lustration, according to Ukrayinski Novyny news agency.

He also voiced his hopes that Lutsenko would be able to reform the Ukrainian prosecution system.

"I count on Yuriy Lutsenko who is not a part of the [old] system and personally experienced persecution for political reasons to break the old system and build a new prosecution service for Ukraine. The new prosecution service will have a very clear philosophy to act like the state’s lawyer in criminal cases," the Minister added.

Yuriy Lutsenko earlier claimed he would make sure to complete the lustration of prosecutors.
