Debaltseve: Shooting Occurred Between Personnel of the Different Russian Units

In Debaltseve, a city in the part of Donetsk Oblast which is currently not controlled by the Ukrainian government, a shooting occurred between the two Russian servicemen who wanted to ran away for home and a unit of the Russian National Guard that arrived to arrest them. The event was reported in the press release of the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian Intelligence, on May 11, 2016 a unit of the Russian National Guard arrived to Ukraine's Debaltseve in order to deal with cases of desertion among the Russian military personnel illegally stationed in the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk Oblast. Two servicemen of the rifles battalion of the Russian 7th Motorized Rifles Brigade [Rus.: 7 омсбр] were detained while they were trying to return to the territory of Russia without a permission of their commanders.

During the standoff with deserters one Russian National Guardsmen was wounded and a Russian Army vehicle was damaged. On the same day a serviceman of the Russian 5th Motorized Rifles Brigade stationed in Makiivka was killed in action and a serviceman of the 11th Separate Motorized Rifles Regiment also stationed in Makiivka was wounded.
