Vladimir Komoedov, chairman of the Russian Parliament lower house defense committee and ex-Commander of Russia’s Black Sea Navy Fleet, confirmed plans to deploy Iskander ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads in Kaliningrad Oblast, Deutsche Welle [ed.: the text of this hyperlink is in the Ukrainian language] reports.

"Kaliningrad is our front-rank outpost on western borders and the main base of the Baltic Fleet, surrounded by NATO countries. This area is of particular importance, and we need to build it up by stationing more modern military equipment there. We have repeatedly expressed our plans to deploy Iskander ballistic missiles there," Komoedov said.

He highlighted that Russia’s Baltic Fleet was ‘strengthened’, as new equipment and warships are being deployed there.

This week Reuters reported Russia was about to deploy Iskander ballistic missiles in Kaliningrad and Crimea by 2019, claiming the need to counter NATO activities.
